How can the agriculture industry reach out to the public to gain their support on issues impacting agriculture?
How can the agriculture industry (producers, processors, etc.) reach out to the public to gain their support on important issues impacting agriculture?
•Environmental Preservation
•Animal Welfare
•Food Safety
•Energy Production
Education is key in getting consumers to understand what the issues are even about. Getting agriculture issues involved more in schools, talking about the issues through the media, and getting the nonsense that PETA and similar groups put into the consumer heads straightened out are some of the biggest factors. Consumers are extremely uneducated about a lot of ag issues, take for instance pesticides found on produce at the grocery store. The amount of pesticide that would have to be on the produce is A LOT to even make a person sick. Hormones given to dairy cattle- no tests have shown that they can lead to birth defects or cause cancer in humans. Information is taken and twisted so badly that consumers don’t even know what to believe.
Education and correct information given is the number one issue to consider when trying to get consumers to support ag issues.
done w undrgrad.want to strt grad(masters sustainable livnig/agriculture abroad cheap any ideas? no luck yet?
I have just finished my communications degree and want to go for sustainable living or sustainable agriculture Masteres degree ( graduate). I have tried searching online but only come up with Maharishi University in Iowa, nothing else. any one has an idea or knows where to find a cheap college to study this program outside of the United States?
There are about 30 universities which offer a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development/Agriculture… too much to list here. The best search engine for graduate programs is www.petersons.com. When you get to the search engine, check both Agriculture and Social Sciences, and then choose Sustainable Development as the specialization. Then you can see the list of schools. As for inexpensive, you can research which schools offer financial aid too.
How supply and Demand work in the agriculture market when government controls are not operating?
The more demand for food the more to be grown. The less demand the less to be grown. If the farmer didnt produce enough the price goes up. If the farmer produced to much the price goes down.
What types of equipment are used on farms?
I am doing a market assessment on clean heat and power, and its applications specifically in agriculture. In order to do this, I need to know what types of equipment are used on farms, specifically equipment such as furnaces, boilers, and other equipment with extreme heat associated.

Get the hottest peppers you can find in the supermarket and boil them down in water. You can then spray this solution with a pump bottle.

Agriculture tread tires on a Zero Turn Mower?
I have a Cub Cadet RZT 50" cut zero Turn mower. I Absolutely HATE he Turf tread tires that came on it because my yard has small inclines and those tires just spin and NEVER get any traction. Im always sliding in the ditch and into the fence with those tires. I’m thinking about getting some Agriculture tread (tractor tread) tires for my mower. Will these tires leave scrub marks or tear up the grass when i turn?? Looking for answers form some who one who has had had experience with these tires on a zero turn mowers. I used to have a tractor type mower and i had the same problem with loss of traction, I put the agriculture tread or tractor tread tires on it and it stopped the problem and the tires DID NOT tear up the grass. Im thinking a tire with deeper tread will cause me to get MORE traction thus there will be NO spinning of the tires. The tires spinning is what caused them to tare up the grass. Serious answers only please.
You can put any tires on it that you desire. The more aggressive tires that you are asking about wil not damage your lawn. You have really answered your own question they will not cause damage. You can also ask this question at the gardenweb forums or the pro lawn forums.

How many people will die after fossil fuel depletion has made mechanized agriculture impossible?
How many people will die from war, disease, and famine after fossil fuel depletion has deprived agribusiness of fuels for tractors and harvesters, chemical fertilizers, and pesticides – and after there’s no more petrol fuels to transport produce from the rural farms to the cities? I’ve heard it said that this is a human crisis at the extinction level, which means that billions of deaths are expected.

I have read a paper on this subject before, cant find the link at the moment. As I recall the estimates given were around 4 billion. The real problems will start when the prices get high enough to affect the trucking industry. Expect to see the owner/operator type truckers strike. When that happens food will no longer appear on the shelves at the grocery store, medicines and equipment will not be delivered to hospitals, etc. Shortly there after there will be riots, and martial law. The U.S government will have no choice but to become a true police state in a last ditch attempt to maintain order. If we manage to overcome that crisis then the real problem will become the dictatorship that will take the opportunity to seize power. If we fail to overcome the fuel crisis, then you will eventually see government collapse, massive death tolls from starvation and disease as well as the end of civilization as we know it. It is not a matter of if, but a matter of when.
