I’m thinking about going to school and getting an associate Sustainable Agriculture degree?
It teaches you about farming organically and farm production ect. I know "Green" jobs are in the future but does anyone know if this is a good path to take? It will take me two years but I think i’d transfer to a university for my bachelors. If you know anything let me know thanks.
All "Ag" schools teach sustainable farming. It’s insulting to suggest they do not.
How did agriculture make life harder for Neolitic people?
a. farmers had to worry about providing a steady food supply.
b. farmers had to work about competition from huntures and gartherers.
c. farmers had to work longer and harder than huntres and gatherers.
d.farmers had to depend on one place tp provide all their food.
In a way all of the above are true, but if you have to pick one, I’d say d. Read this article to get a good idea of neolithic farming.

I need to eradicate all vegetation including bamboo the cheapest and sure-fire way without renting equipment.?
Don’t want to go through the expense of renting "tearing out" machines to get rid of bamboo and brush in vacant field. Does anyone know of a "home remedie" such as (I heard of using ) salt (?) or something that may not be a chemical if there is such a thing. I am sure there must be farmers or gardeners who would know of something that they use so as not to contaminate the soil with a chemical. If all else fails, I will have to contact the Department of Agriculture or my local Extension Service of Rutgers School of agriculture for a possible solution. Thanx!
Controlled burn. Prescribed or controlled burning (back burning) is a technique sometimes used in forest management, farming, or prairie restoration. Fire is a natural part of both forest and grassland ecology and controlled fire can be a tool for foresters. Controlled burning stimulates the germination of some desirable forest trees, thus renewing the forest. Some seeds, such as sequoia, remain dormant until fire breaks down the seed coating.
In industrialized countries, controlled burning is usually overseen by fire control authorities for regulations and permits. The party responsible must delineate the intended time and place. Obtaining a permit may not limit liability if the fire burns out of control.
What is a good pesticide I can use for my sunflowers and watermelons?
I am growing watermelons and sunflowers in my backyard. In the few weeks they have been sprouted, I have noticed holes and chewings off them from what looks like caterpillars or nats or something. I don’t know if this is a normal thing, but I don’t want my watermelons or sunflowers to die. I have looked in my garage, all I have is pesticides for bushes and trees and mulch, but it says to keep it away from food. And I am going to eat the sunflower seeds and the watermelons! So I was wondering if anyone knew of a good fruit/food pesticide I can use, that would be safe for human indigestion. PLEASE HELP! THEY WILL DIE SOON!!!!!! : (
Any form of commercially available garden insecticide will do.

How do you see the Populists? Could they have succeeded in implementing their political and economic goals?
Some historians see the Populists as the last genuine, grassroots democratic movement in U.S. history, a group whose efforts set the tone (and influenced the agenda) of many later reform movements. Others portray them as outdated and out of touch with an increasingly industrial society; small farmers who thought of themselves as the yeoman farmers that Thomas Jefferson idealized and who believed that agriculture was the backbone of the nation’s economy. How do you see the Populists? Could they have succeeded in implementing their political and economic goals?
Populist is a very relative term. Whatever the needs of the masses are is the populist agenda. Success in implementing envisioned political and economic goals hinges on their ability to fight off those who would like to maintain their success in the status quot. Peasant’s Revolts and conflicts between the Plebs and Patricians are common in history but obviously Populists gaining control is always difficult.
Agriculture theory idea?
what do you think of this idea.. Government starts a new fund to pay farmers. during growing and harvesting season there are thousands of farmers to do hand labor, and in the off season the fund pays farmers. They get rid of most machines so that wheat and corn are harvested by hand and with a Scythe. This way there would be a lot more smaller farms (under 1000 acres) and there would be lots of jobs created. Everything would be done by hand and with horses. know its kind of going back in time, but it would make new towns and business out in lower populated areas. There would have to be something to do during the winter, but with government funding they could create various factory’s that produce mainly during the winter. Also carpentry and metal working jobs. This would also lower soil compaction from tractors. I know this idea needs a lot of work, but in theory it could be really cool.
How do you propose to pay the farmers. With taxes gained from farm sales? How do you propose to pay the differential cost to food to the poor programs with an 100-10000 percent increase in food prices?
Soil compaction would not be decreased as pressure per square inch applied is greater with horses than it is with most modern tractor tires.
You failed to mention weed control, disease control, soil fertility, variety selection, etc. All issues which modern agriculture has developed efficient methods to deal with these problems.
You also think you would increase the number by thousands of farmers. The last time the world had your system in place (~1900) over half the people in industrial nations were involved in agriculture, so, for the USA, you would have to pay 150 million new farmers/farm workers.
Your idea is a nice dream, but lacks realistic concepts.
Getting a degree in green fingers: horticulture or garden design?
I am both interested in studying horticulture and garden design. What would be a smarter thing to do: to get a degree in horticulture and then pursue some sort of specialisation in garden design or vice versa? To what an extent do these two things intertwine in real life?
I am in college right now for a degree in Horticulture. I want to do Landscape Design, and hope to go on to Landscape Architecture. As of right now, my community college only offers a degree in Horticulture, classes only for Landscape design. I am trying to get all my Gen Eds done before going for my Bachelor’s Degree.
In Landscape design, you need to know the growth habits of the plants you are using in your design, how they will mature, the Latin names because that is how they are identified in the industry, soil requirements and many other things. Your horticulture classes will teach you that.

Where online can I find a good agriculture business plan?
first choose a sector of agriculture to get into.
Why was the northern spread of agriculture into Europe slow from the area of first domestication?
What is so different about the northern environment that affected the lateness of the spread of agriculture?
Agriculture spread north about as soon as climate for agriculture allowed fairly reliable crop growing. This was of course a long time after the glaciers retreated.
