Is sustainable agriculture the key to todays problem of increasing environmental degradation?
I think Victor works for Monsanto.
He seems to know a lot, if you lived in a box and never left the city his comments might seem to make a lot of sense. Some of the scary things he says may indeed come to pass, but not because of ‘natural’ causes.
First, GMO, Genetically Modified Organism are flat out dangerous. you can do your own research use your own logic and common sense to make a decision on that.
The federal govt and companies that create GMOs are doing more to damage not only our agricultural abilities but the environment as well.
One right after the other the family farm is being pushed out of existence. Farm land is being reduced, and more and more held by a few large agri-corps. Agriculture itself is so legislated on the small scale that very very soon it is going to be illegal to grow your own vegetables in your own garden. Huge tracts of farm-able land sits, all through the United States. There are more places than less in the U.S. where you can drive for hours through land that could be farmed? Why is it not? Laws. Thats the only reason.
I find it interesting that some talk about "sustainable farming" sustainable farming was pioneered in the 1800s and perfected right up to the 1940s. By that time the small independent farmer pretty much had it down, crop rotation etc.
I feel for Moosedog, he’s so close to the problem and even he doesnt see the big picture. He thinks its all just economics, but it’s not. Its a systematic plan that has been well executed over many years.
This is not conspiracy theory craziness, this is observation of a few facts.
If demand is greater than supply, the price goes up.
If the total number of farmland decreases and total amount of product supplied decreases then demand must exceed supply and thereby drive prices up.
If prices increase due to normal factors, then the original supplier (the farmer) should realize a higher profit for their produce.
We have less farmland and fewer farms.
We have less produce from that farmland and fewer farms.
We have larger population that must consume that produce. Making the demand obviously exceed the supply, driving the prices up.
That would mean a greater dollar income to the farmer. But as Moosedog may testify the individual farmer is not realizing an increase in income.
Why?
Where is the money. Your paying more for a gallon of milk at the grocery store than ever before. But the independent dairies all over the nation are dumping their milk because they cant make enough money to sell it. Independent dairies across the nation are not making more for a gallon of milk then they made 5 years ago, yet the retail price of milk has gone up ten fold in that time period. Half of the dairy farms that were around ten years ago are now gone. Where’s the money going? I don’t know, but I know it’s not getting down to the farmer.
meh. who cares. your not listening anyway.
please any onese questions from economics?
1. ) Calculate the four types of elasticities by taking the examples from your
daily life.
2. )Different market structures are prevailing in our different sectors like
agriculture, power supply, transport industry, cement industry, restaurants,
etc. Analyze and compare the characteristics of all market structure with
respect to the given sectors.
3.) Differentiate the degrees of price discrimination by giving examples from
your practical life.
4). The fuel prices are going down internationally. But the benefit is not being
shared by the consumers. Why?
1) elasticities:
Income elasticity of demand
Price elasticity of demand
Cross-Price elasticity of demand
Price elasticity of supply
How you get examples from real life is anyone’s guess.
2)Perfect Competition – like the market for apples
Monopolistic Competition- like the market for shoes
Monopoly- like the market for water in some regions
Oligopoly – like the market for oil
3)1st degree – could be a car dealer who sees you wearing a suit and quotes/charges you a higher price than a poor person. you would never know.
2nd degree – you get cheap tickets for a flight just before it leaves
3rd degree – iron produces in chile charging higher prices for sales to japan than sales in chile, as they know the japanese market is tighter
4)
Not entirely sure what they want there. Perhaps what they’re getting at is that oil companies aren’t reducing petrol prices as much as oil prices are falling
Nursery Equipment?
Can someone help me? I’m looking to write an introduction for nursery equipment that is used for children (not agriculture). Can anyone give me an introduction? Or at least give me points to use in the introduction that I could elaborate on? Things like why parents use nursery equipment today instead of using regular furniture. Etc.
Best answer (which would probably be the one with the summary) will get 10 POINTS!
Thanx and your help is greaty appreciated.
I wont get best answer for this but most nursery furniture at least the stuff I got turns into stuff for older kids. like I got a 3 in one crib. Also another reason alot of people get nursery stuff is because the wood or whatever is tougher then some other furniture
How to keep ants out of my garden using natural, pesticide free substances only?
Also, how to keep ants out of compost heap using natural, pesticide free substances only?
Thanks.
Why do you want ants out of your garden? They turn more soil on the Earth each year than any other creature and are essential for a healthy garden.
there being in your compost just means you have a good pile going. but turning the pile every 10 to 15 days (or when the temp goes below 110F-you should have a soil thermometer in the pile) and keeping it moist should keep the pile a bit warmer than ants like.
Did you read Bush’s proposal to trade govt certification of lack of US workers for employer attestation as
with PERM? And we all saw the law firm video about how to pretend to follow the PERM rules while not hiring Americans, didn’t we?
"18. The Department Of Labor (DOL) Will Reform The H-2A Agricultural Seasonal Worker Program. No sector of the American economy requires a legal flow of foreign workers more than agriculture, which has begun to experience severe labor shortages as our Southern border has tightened. The President has therefore directed DOL to review the regulations implementing the H-2A program and to institute changes that will provide farmers with an orderly and timely flow of legal workers, while protecting the rights of laborers.
19. The Department Of Labor Will Issue Regulations Streamlining The H-2B Program For Non-Agricultural Seasonal Workers. Because businesses in seasonal industries such as landscaping and hospitality frequently have a difficult time locating temporary workers, the H-2B program has proven quite popular.
Some employers report significant processing delays, however. DOL’s proposed rule will speed processing by moving from a government-certified system to an employer-attestation system akin to the PERM system that has reduced backlogs in other areas.
20. The Department Of Homeland Security Will Extend The Visa Term For Professional Workers From Canada And Mexico To Attract More Of These Talented Workers To The United States. The United States must compete for foreign professional workers, and those who elect to lend their talents to the U.S. economy should be welcomed with open arms, not given a bureaucratic runaround. Yet the roughly 65,000 workers who enter the United States each year on the TN visa must go to the trouble of renewing their visa every year. This regulation will extend the TN visa duration to three years – the same term as other popular professional visas.
21. The Department Of Homeland Security And The Dept Of Labor Will Study And Report on [H1B skilled visas]/
Where does he think he gets the right to do this?
Thanks, Steven because I was pretty sure the law required government certification, but I’ll check that.
The law doesn’t mean much any more, legislators bow to the demands of big business and special interest, citizens be dammmned.
Bill Gates stood up in Congress with a straight face and asked for UNLIMITED h1b visa’s to meet demands… Don’t get me wrong I am sure Microsoft has big needs but unlimited h1b visa’s for all??? My job category falls under the h1b and I have never seen a shortage. I wonder why this is??? THEN a watchdog groups posts the salaries of visa holders compared to citizen salaries….. Now I understand.
I admit I am not that familiar with the H2a or the H2b but I thought the purpose of all these talks were to eliminate visa abuse??? I doubt fast tracking the process will eliminate abuse, in fact it opens up a whole new can of worms…
Isn’t this sad??? Another AVOIDABLE death!!!?

Four-vehicle accident claims young teacher
BY ERIC MULLENS
Car caught between two potato trucks
ALAMOSA — A young teacher in the gifted and talented program at Sangre de Cristo elementary school died when her car was crushed between two potato trucks Tuesday night on Alamosa County Lane 5.
Kelly Bergen, 25, of Monte Vista, Colo. was killed when her Ford Focus was hit from behind by a potato truck driven by Oscar Martinez-Cruz, 27, of Monte Vista and then pushed into another potato truck being towed by a tractor.
Martinez-Cruz was arrested and charged with careless driving causing death, driving a motor vehicle without a valid operator’s license and failure to present evidence of insurance. The operator of the second potato truck, Miguel Ramirez, 54, of Greeley, Colo. and the driver of the tractor, Bernardo Garcia, 55, of Hereford, Texas have not been charged in the accident.
Martinez-Cruz is currently being held at the Alamosa County Detention Center on charges related to the accident. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent-in-Charge Ed Tolbert of the Alamosa ICE office, confirmed Wednesday that Martinez-Cruz is an undocumented Mexican national working in the U.S. illegally and the agency has placed a detainer hold on him.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Travis S. DePriest investigated the accident that happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday on County Lane 5 North, about one-tenth of a mile east of Alamosa County Road 102 South. According to the trooper’s report, all four vehicles were westbound on County Lane 5 North with Bergen’s Ford behind Ramirez’s potato truck that was being towed by the tractor driven by Garcia. As Bergen’s car approached the truck and tractor it was hit from behind by the truck driven by Martinez-Cruz and pushed 106 feet, rotating clockwise in front of Martinez-Cruz’s truck. Both the car and truck then slammed into the rear of the truck being towed and pushing it into the rear of the tractor. The tractor left the right side of the roadway and struck a power pole and came to rest in a field facing northwest. Bergen’s car came to rest in the westbound lane of County Lane 5 North, facing north and still attached to the front of potato truck driven by Martinez-Cruz.
You really do your homework don’t you,I don’t know how you come across all of it,you must surf all day but good,it’s time that people see the human cost of illegal immigration. It could happen to any truck driver is I’m sure what some apologists will say or something equally stupid, but since he was illegal and apperantly unlicensed we have no idea whether he even was properly trained. So everybody there’s another one of those "jobs Americans won’t do" filled by an illegal alien and all it cost was a human life. By the way truck driving is a good paying job Americans will do for any that could miss the sarcasm,I know I am one and they pay me quite well and it never caused anyone to die.

why was the agriculture spread through sub Saharan Africa considerably late?
Agriculture spread through sub-Saharan Africa considerably later than it did through other parts of the world. Why do you think this is so?
Most of the sub-Saharan African government doesnt want to change their culture and heritage that’s why they are very reluctant to change their way of living.
