What are cons of Sustainable agriculture?
There have to be at least 3
limited amount of arable land- we can’t make more farmable land and maintain sustainability
limited amount of production- at the max of production (which is ever increasing thanks to technology) population would hit carrying capacity resulting in diseases and plagues during years of low production (same with non-sustainable except it would happen sooner, but at least it would be less severe)
it’s not the best "right now" solution in situations where food is limited and practices to get more outweigh future implications
What are some interest groups for farming/agriculture?
I’m doing a government project. I’m having some troubles, Could someone help me?
These are the principles our group stands for :
-more regulation over industries
could cause environmental problems
-Family farmers supply clean food supply
-Farmers feed us
-For more crops
-For renewable energy
I need some interest groups that support these things.
and we also are against industries because they cram animals together in small places and that creates problems, while Farmers don’t do that

Botulism Cases Force Huge Meat Recall

WASHINGTON (July 22) – A Georgia meat processor on Saturday expanded its recall of canned meat products that may be connected to a botulism outbreak.
Castleberry’s Food Co. of Augusta recalled more than 80 types of canned chili, beef stew, corned beef hash and other meat products in addition to the 10 brands it had recalled Thursday.
Cans of chili sauce made at the Castleberry’s plant were found in the homes of an Indiana couple and two children in Texas who had been hospitalized with botulism. All four are expected to survive.
Botulism is a muscle-paralyzing disease caused by a toxin made by a bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. Such bacteria are commonly found in soil.
The Agriculture Department’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Thursday that an equipment malfunction may have been responsible for the contamination.
On Saturday, FSIS said the malfunctions at the Augusta processing plant may have existed longer than initially estimated.
Castleberry’s, which is owned by Bumble Bee Seafoods LLC and based in San Diego, voluntarily expanded the recall.
Castleberry’s senior vice president Steve Mavity said: "We believe we have isolated the issue to a situation of under-processing on one line of our production facility. As an extra precaution to the recall we announced on Wednesday, we have shut down this line altogether and are recalling all products produced on it."
Brand names of the recalled products include Austex, Best Yet, Big Y, Black Rock, Bloom, Bryan, Bunker Hill, Castleberry’s, Cattle Drive, Firefighters, Food Club, Food Lion, Goldstar, Great Value, Kroger, Lowes, Meijer, Morton House, Paramount, Piggly Wiggly, Prudence, Southern Home, Steak N Shake, Thrifty Maid, Triple Bar and Value Time. The recall also includes four varieties of Natural Balance dog food.
Consumers with questions about the recall may contact Castleberry’s at 1-888-203-8446.
I think that it’s good that I only eat kosher meat.
What are the pros and cons of pesticide use on crops?
We’re sat in Science doing a project and we need some people’s views on the pros and cons of pesticide use on crops on farms are? Is it good, bad, etc?
As well as those listed above, pesticide use is considered by some to be a factor in colony collapse disorder, where the population of a bee hive declines dramatically, and the hive dies. If pesticides really are important in this process, it may well be one of their most serious effects – bees pollinate crop plants, allowing them to reproduce. Without the bees, it would be very difficult to propagate crop plants.
Is it time to call a National Strike over a Referendum on Europe?
The EU Plan to ‘Destroy Britain’
Within seven-years you will need a permit to cook a meal or to take a bath.
Watching TV will be limited by rota. Employment will reach 45% of the population and al our power and food will be imported from Europe
The reason:
By order of the EU Britain must close 17 power stations – 40% of our electricity generating capacity. We will be force to go cap in hand to our ‘Partners’ in Europe, to by power at whatever price they demand.
Without electricity our entire economy will collapse – why?
Outraged by Britain’s continued resistance to a Federal State of Europe, and aided and abetted by British traitors who deride our history and have nothing but contempt for its traditions, the decision to divide Britain into three separate regions each dominated by fiercely pro-EU federalists has been made. Britons are to be denied the right to vote.
However, aware that these plans will result in a massive surge of support for UKIP, the BNP and other nationalist parties, with the distinct possibility that they could win enough support to overturn and even withdraw from the EU completely, the plotters developed a policy to destroy Britain’s self-sufficing ability in, agriculture and energy creation.
According to the Stalinists handbook to disenfranchise a nation you must remove or decry those elements recognised as being identified as national traits. In our case: Post Offices, Red telephone Boxes, Bobby’s on the Beat, Equality under the Law, Freedom of thought and speech. You then impose restrictions of freedom of action in the name of public safety; disciplining the public for minor transgressions and flooding the nation with immigrants in an attempt to cause the destabisation of the very infrastructure of the nation. Hopefully this will lead to riots and thus justify the introduction of military law.
You must also recruit civilian spies to report minor transgressions and as we now know, ‘essential legislation to combat terrorism’, was in reality introduced to give local councils the powers to delve into the private lives of the electorate.
Farmers are being paid not to grow crops or to grow crops for alternative fuels like bio-diesel, which are less environmental friendly than diesel oil. The whole scam of climate change has been shamelessly promoted to justify draconian government control over us.
Recently, the Minister of Agriculture, Hilary Benn, decided to test public reaction to energy permits by advocated issuing carbon trading permits to all of us wishing to buy fuel. This scam is being actively promoted in the USA as a means of gaining control over American’s lifestyles. Foolish because it will cost billions of dollars to implement, make trillions of dollars for governments and speculators, like the liar Al Gore, and not make one iota of difference to climate change.
Correction, that’s not quite true, man-made CO2 does add to global temperatures by two or three trillionth’s of a degree centigrade. And to obtain this prize of glittering absurdity, economies will be ruined and millions of people will starve to death, which fits nicely with the green zealots ideal solution to global warming the reduction of the human population.
How much longer must we tolerate this blatant abuse of power by our own government acting against the public interest?
Is there nothing we can do? Yes, I do believe that you and I can put an end to this treachery by demonstrating our anger.
It’s time to show our politicians that we are in charge of our destiny and not them. I therefore propose; ‘A Right To Vote On Europe’ – National two-hour strike between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 10.00.a.m. on Monday 7th July 2008.
With the threat of repeatedly bringing the country to a standstill until Gordon Brown gives us our right to vote in a referendum on Europe.
Either we assert our right to be self- governing – or we lose it for ever.
Tonyb.
or…..we will develop renewable power sources and the new nuclear power stations that have been given the go-ahead already by htis government.
Which do you think is more likely?
Although I think your mind is already made up.
Gardening/Horticulture Question: Should I have said something to someone?
I was once on a gardening/horticulture course and the people running it were so supposed to wear Polo Shirts which proved they were who they were – for the course. Anyway one removed his Polo Shirt because it was Summer and was then wearing a White T-Shirt. Should I of reported him?.
Oh yes, of course you should have. He would have been made to look small in front of a lot of people. Probably got a warning from employers. Overlooked for promotion, all for what, some idiot who did not have the guts to approach him himself and point the fact out. GROW UP
Why is agriculture on the leading edge of America’s business cycle,?
and what does that portend for our economy now?
Like a leech, business has grown and festered in the body of agriculture. These cling-ons suck the hapless shopper dry and double the cost of food. I am a big supporter of keeping it local. Notice how the cost of food has grown in these high fuel price months. It is insidious but the first thing I noticed is that sale prices have all but disappeared and it fools you into thinking nothing has changed. In the cold areas north and south, wait till winter comes. Better buy your sweaters and coats now.
Can commerce, agriculture and the environment ever work together?
Commerce, agriculture and the environment are usually at odds with each other, can they ever work together?
yes. By going the green route.
creating Energy/environment friendly vechiles
converting to wind, solar power, etc
you need people working in these & related fields in order for it to be done

I urge people to pray for all those who will be affected get active and informed, this crisis may effect everyone even worldwide.
Make sure you have emergency supplies and a plan for you and the people you care about. that means extra food, water, a source of power, medicines you take, think about what you need in a given day to survive mentally and physically.
The chemicals that have now been released as a result of the spill will effect air and water as well as the agriculture and food supplies.
